About the event

Most of the new buildings are now taking shape on site and the team is well underway with the internal works on some blocks.   Your chance to have a look around the next phase …...

What’s happening on site?

The scaffold has now been fully removed on blocks A3 and A4 and starting to put in the furniture and interior fittings.

Works on the external hard landscaping is now commencing on the courtyards near A3 and A4. Hard landscaping is the term used to describe the construction materials that help to shape a landscape such as paving, gravel, timber, stone etc.

The dry lining works and internal fit out, including furniture installation, is ongoing in blocks A1 and A2. Dry lining is a system for cladding the internal faces of buildings, such as walls and ceilings. Plasterboard is attached to the internal faces, creating a smooth surface that finishes such as paint can be applied to directly, a ‘wet’ plaster finish is not required

The steelwork for the new John Snow College heart building has commenced. This is located between blocks A1 and A2. The heart building for each college will house college facilities and administration services.

On the University Hub building the works on the external façade are now nearing completion. The team is continuing with final fix mechanical (M&E) works and the final floor and ceiling finishes are being installed.

On the new South College the cluster flat blocks B3, B4 and B5 are progressing well. Work is continuing on the pre-cast concrete system that makes up the cluster flats. The new buildings are being constructed using precast insulated architectural finished sandwich panels which make up the external walls. These are made off-site and then fit together on site, almost like a large scale version of flat pack furniture!

In the new South College townhouses, B1 and B2, we are now at fit out stage and are starting to install the new furniture which includes beds, wardrobes, desks and cupboards in the bedrooms.

The heart building for the new South College is starting to take shape. The steelwork and roof is now in place and work on the steel framing system (SFS), which makes up the walls of the building, is ongoing.

Installation of the mains services around the site is continuing.

Internal fit out and finishing trades will be continuing within the blocks.

Dry lining works on the cluster flats, B3, B4 and B5 will be starting next month.

Once blocks B3, B4 and B5 are up to height we will be starting the roof works.
