About the event

This seminar will explain:
  • Mandatory requirements to comply
  • Who needs to comply with it
  • How to implement it
  • Competencies and training requirements
  • Work examples

The failures of quality that resulted in the recent incidents at Grenfell Tower and the Edinburgh schools highlighted the need for an urgent review of the way in which quality is managed within the construction industry.  Retrofitting is one mechanism that is proving crucial to improving quality in the built environment and there is an increasing opportunity to professionalise this type of work.

In this seminar Professor Edwards will describe the application of the PAS 2035 specification and the related PAS 2030 specification. He will describe the mandatory requirements for many organisations to comply with it and the competencies and related training requirements. He will also describe some of his own case study work in the practical application of retrofit.

The seminar should be of interest to everyone working with existing buildings and in particular those working under ‘Trustmark’ schemes, working for housing associations, local authorities and others working on housing retrofit projects.

Speaker: Professor John Edwards MA, DipBldgCons, CEnv, FCIOB, FRICS, IHBC
Director of Edwards Hart Consultants and Professor on Practice at the University of Wales Trinity St David. A Chartered Environmentalist, Chartered Construction Manager, Chartered Building Surveyor and trained energy assessor. Member of the PAS 2030 and PAS 2035 steering groups, BSI Retrofit Task Group and co-author of CIOB guidance on retrofit with over 30 years’ experience of sustainable refurbishment and retrofit concerning buildings of many types and ages.
The event is being held at the Construction Wales Innovation Centre (CWIC), UWTSD, Heol Ynys, Kings Road, Swansea SA18AH
