Crossrail is a new 73 mile railway line under London and the home counties.  The line will provide a high-frequency and suburban passenger service which will link parts of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, via central London, to Essex and south-east London.  The line will be named the Elizabeth Line.

There is a huge amount of work underway to complete the new stations and fit-out the physical infrastructure with the systems required to turn it into an operational railway.   More than half of the new track has been successfully laid and nearly all of the platform structures have been built.

Architectural features such as the curved concrete wall cladding which is characteristic of the underground platforms, the timber beams of Abbey Wood station and the green roof structure at Whitechapel station can now be seen.

The remainder of the delivery programme will present new challenges as the fit-out works progress such as installation of tracks, platform screens, tunnel ventilation, power, signalling, communications and overhead line equipment.

The Elizabeth Line will be vital to the future success of the capital and, in just over two years, the first passenger trains will pass through the centre of London.
